Cork city centre to get 23 Gardaí on foot patrol every day under new plan
Gardaí launched a permanent high-visibility policing plan for Cork city centre on Monday 24 November 2025, with 23 Gardaí assigned to foot patrols every day after the Cork City Division gained 48 extra Gardaí.
There are 11 patrol posts across the city, staffed from 8am to 4am: 11 Gardaí during the day and 12 at night. The locations were chosen using feedback from the community and businesses as well as Garda crime data.
The patrols focus on public order, anti-social behaviour, drug dealing, aggressive begging and shoplifting, with a policy of arresting repeat offenders and objecting to bail where appropriate.
They are backed by the Roads Policing Unit, the Public Order Unit and detective and plain-clothes Gardaí, while community Gardaí will take the Garda Community Engagement Van around the city to offer crime prevention advice.
