Two Galway areas secure funding for new community vehicles

Two Galway communities have secured Government funding for new service vehicles under the Ceantair Laga Árd-Riachtanais (CLÁR) programme.

Renmore has been allocated more than €66,000 towards an electric vehicle for Galway Hospice, which will provide mobility transport and cancer care services. In Clifden, FORUM Connemara will receive almost €30,000 for a diesel vehicle to support its meals on wheels service.

The allocations form part of Measure 2 of the CLÁR scheme, which covers mobility, cancer care, first responder and meals on wheels transport. In total, €1.7 million has been earmarked this year to deliver 32 vehicles nationwide.

Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht Minister, Dara Calleary commented: “The CLÁR programme is providing funding to support vital services in some of our most rural areas, particularly for those with acute medical and accessibility challenges. These services give greater independence to individuals and their families and empowers them to live fulfilled lives within their communities.

“We all know the immense value of these organisations in our communities. The volunteers in our community, first responders and search and rescue organisations are those who we turn to in some of the most challenging of circumstances. I’m delighted to be able to assist them in the critical services they provide. I’m also pleased to be able to support meals on wheels services that are vital to assist the elderly and vulnerable in their own homes.

“I know this investment of €1.7 million will make a real difference to people’s lives.”

The other two measures under the scheme, which support small-scale rural infrastructure projects, are expected to be rolled out later this year.
