Tender for innovative Galway social housing scheme is awarded

Works will commence shortly on new social housing units in Ballyburke, Galway following the awarding of the tender to OCC Construction.
Fána an tSrutháin will consist of 84 residential units as part of Galway City Council’s Housing for All action plan, 40% of which are designed as age friendly or with universal design.
The plans include a central community area, local centre units, a café, crèche facility, and an outdoor amphitheatre. They will also incorporate Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) involving off and on-site manufacturing and techniques that increase the efficiency of the delivery of housing.
There will be 71 apartments across four blocks and 13 terraced family units. Units that will be age friendly or have a universal design scheme will be adjacent to the local centre services that are proposed for convenience and accessibility.
Chief executive of Galway City Council Leonard Cleary, said, “I’m delighted to see this scheme reach this important milestone, with the contract signing for the construction of the new development at Ballyburke. This project will provide much needed housing units in an efficient manner, enhance infrastructure, and improve facilities for residents in the area.”
Management of the project will be covered by Galway City Council’s Housing Capital Section and the technical advisor team will be led by Dijk Architects.
OCC Construction is expected deliver the development in late 2027 bringing the number of housing units delivered in a five-year period since 2022 to 1120.
