Seven Galway organisation were awarded funding to further their efforts in highlighting the role of the European Union in everyday life.

The Communicating Europe Initiative provides funding to groups for projects that will enhance the understanding of the EU and connect it with everyday life which also included accessibility to information about EU issues at local, regional, and national levels.

The theme for this year is “The EU had a catalyst for change.”

Ardán is an organisation that supports creatives in the audio-visual industry in the West of Ireland. Previously called the Galway Film Centre, Ardán provides access to opportunities for artists to grow and showcase their work.

For this initiative, they will be managing a game development project called ‘GameDev Connect Europe’ which will connect developers from more remote areas like Iceland, Greenland, Finland, and Sweden. The focus will be on collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and community engagement over digital channels, European Games Projects Co-Ordinator, John Crowley told the Irish Independent.

“The project highlights the importance of EU membership, particularly in funding opportunities, and also for workshops and co-projects that cross borders and bridge remote communities."

Project proposals were encouraged to look at how the EU and Ireland interact, and ways to improve key issues moving into the future. Involving the community and educational institutions were also highly recommended.

Successful applications around the nation were awarded certain amounts between €2,000-€10,000. The following Galway groups were successful recipients:

Amdalah Africa Foundation, AMDAF - €10,000

Ballinderreen Community Centre - €4,000
