Restoration works on protected bridge in Galway under way following €50,000 funding boost

Restoration works have begun to refurbish a protected bridge in Galway with funds from the 2026 Roads Programme.
Over the next two weeks, works on the Killaclogher Bridge on the R339 in Monivea will be ongoing as part of an initiative to focus on smaller refurbishments that deserve the attention of the local authorities.
Galway County Councillor Sean Broderick said the project is an outcome of “long-standing local concern.”
“There are a lot of little projects like [this] around the locality that I’d love to try and get done. The national politics and the big projects are being looked after by the more senior politicians, but the smaller projects need a bit of work,” Cllr Broderick told the Irish Independent. “They need somebody to push them forward a little bit and that’s my intention for my term in the council.”
He added that this bridge had been a focus point for the Monivea Heritage Association in the community.
€50,000 in funding for the remedial efforts were allocated under the 2026 Roads Programme.
