Presidential candidate Connolly draws full house at Galway pub fundraiser

Presidential hopeful and Galway native Catherine Connolly drew a packed crowd at the Róisín Dubh on Sunday night, where she made a special appearance at a sold-out concert held in support of her bid for the Áras.
The Ceol for Catherine fundraiser featured an impressive line-up of local talent, with Mary Coughlan headlining alongside John Conneely, Mich Brown, Tracy Bruen and the Galway Ukers. The event ran from 6.30pm to 10.30pm, with every ticket sold in advance.
Addressing the audience, Deputy Connolly said her campaign was about more than just one candidate. “I’m here tonight to say thank you, because this is not about me, this is about a movement,” she told supporters.
“I’m simply a symbol, and I’m going to go into the Áras to represent the best values of all of us, because together we are much better. The values we hold dear – solidarity, compassion, care, and a vision that’s bigger than all of us, a vision for this beautiful country, one of inclusiveness, one that’s not threatened by diversity.”
Momentum for Deputy Connolly has been growing after Sinn Féin recently backed the Galway native in the race joining Labour Party, the Social Democrats, the Green Party, and People Before Profit in their support.
The weekend of the event canvassers took to Galway neighbourhoods canvassing for Deputy Connolly including her home turf of Shantalla.
Further events are set to take place in the beginning of October according to Catherine Connolly’s campaigning website including another concert and a céilí.
The deadline for voting registration is Tuesday, October 7, and polling will take place on Friday, October 24, between 7am and 10pm.
