President Catherine Connolly to receive Freedom of Galway City award

Galway City Council has chosen to bestow one of the highest honours the local authority can give on President Catherine Connolly.
In the April Galway City Council meeting, councillors agreed to give President Catherine Connolly the Freedom of Galway City award at a ceremony being held on June 12.
The Shantalla native took the office of Uachtarán na hÉireann last year but previously held roles in Galway City Council from 1999, before going on to the House of the Oireachtas in 2016.
The location of the ceremony has not been confirmed.
Previous recipients of this award also include previous President of Ireland and Galway native Michael D. Higgins, Keith Finnegan, Ronald Reagan, Ena McEntee, Nelson Mendela, Mary Bennett, and Billy Lawless.
