Plans lodged to turn Galway hair salon into veterinary clinic
A retail unit in Oranmore could see perms traded for paws, as a change-of-use planning application has been submitted to convert the premises into a veterinary clinic.
The application is for another location of the Briarhill Veterinary Clinic in Galway which serves as a small companion pet vet service.
The unit is located at Oranpoint retail centre, in Oranmore village centre, and it was previously home of Elegance, a beloved hair salon who closed their doors this July after nearly two decades of service, the Irish Independent reported.
The corner unit neighbours a pharmacy as well as office spaces in the floors above. The clinic will contain three rooms including an X-ray space, preparation room, and consulting room.
The proposal specifies that services will be provided in 30-minute appointments, focusing on general small animal welfare.
Additionally, neighbouring businesses will be closed during these hours, further minimizing the likelihood of disturbance.
No major construction on the site is to take place as the applicant confirms the floor space will remain the same.
The Oranmore Metropolitan Settlement Plan puts a primary focus on the “intensive, high quality” development of places like Oranpoint with a variety of appropriate mixed-use amenities.
Therefore, the applicant believes that “a proposal such as this is will within the acceptable usage for such a unit with an existing town centre development”.
Galway County Council will be accepting submissions until October 22, and the decision is expected to be made before November 12.
