A series of newspaper-style posters have appeared in a Galway city retail unit as a planning application for a new coffee shop awaits a decision.

Plans have been submitted to Galway City Council to convert a former retail premises at 1 Middle Street into a takeaway café. The application was lodged by Eyrequay Limited on August 17.

While planning documents published to date contain limited detail, they include provision for a forward-facing serving hatch.

Galway City Council is expected to make a decision on the application by October 11.

Meanwhile, passers-by have noticed a series of newspaper-style notices displayed in the windows of the premises, alongside the statutory site notice.

The annoucnements are lining the windows of the old retail space.

The posters, branded Middle Street Journal, carry the headline: “Mysterious Cow Spotted on Middle Street”, appearing to hint at the identity of the café set to take over the space if planning permission is granted.

One notice states: “Whispers, speculation and a little bit of mystery surround one of Middle Street’s smallest spaces as work quietly gets underway behind closed doors,” before encouraging readers to “watch this space”.

The unit was previously occupied by Sadie Cramer’s art and healing store and is located beside Sweaty Betty and opposite Dough Bros.
