Plans for two new Galway city office buildings at Crown Square site

Planing permission has been granted for two new office buildings at the Crown Square site in Galway city.
The first building in the application, at 4 Crown Square, will consist of a four-storey structure with rooftop garden amenities and plant areas totaling nearly 7,000sqm of space.
The second, at 5 Crown Square, will be of the same design coming in at 8,300sqm but will also include a retail and café space.
The proposal includes an upgrade to the existing Monivea Road bus stop, including the provision of a bus shelter.
The Wellpark/Monivea Road stop sees the popular 401 service between Parkmore and Salthill, spanning from one side of the city to the other, as well as the less frequent 425A towards Mountbellew.
Additionally, the plans include two set down areas along the Monivea Road.
Residents of Monivea Road objected to the set down portion of the proposal due to noise pollution and traffic.
Quoted in the submission residents referenced the Galway City Draft Noise Plan 2024-2028 which names Monivea Road as “one of the nosiest roads” in the city. They therefore called for a reconsideration of the location of the set down area.
Galway City Council is expected to move into their Crown Square office buildings by Christmas this year as the local authority is waiting for the chosen tender to accept a contract and begin works.
The project has been a long-time discussion due to its costings and three-year delays.
In July 2025, Galway City Council approved a historic €60 million loan which would finance a variety of projects including the new City Hall.
