Over €3m allocated to Galway ETB in 2025 for facility and equipment upgrades

The Galway and Roscommon Education and Training Board (GRETB) is set to benefit from a substantial share of the capital funding allocated to the further education and training (FET) sector for 2025.

The package is designed to support small-scale works across FET facilities, covering essential health and safety upgrades, general improvements, and preventative maintenance. Officials say the increased investment will help ETBs keep capital projects on track at a time when construction inflation, rising material and labour costs, and supply chain pressures continue to bite.

Among the funding Galway and Roscommon Education and Training Board has received in Q1 and Q4 of 2025 were: €507,500 under the Green Devolved Grant (Q1 2025), €507,500 through the Additional Green Devolved Grant (Q4 2025), €507,500 via the Devolved Capital Grant (Q1 2025), along with €761,250 for the Green Devolved Grant 2026 and €761,250 for the Devolved Capital Grant 2026.

“This is a major day for Further Education and Training in Galway East,” Galway East TD Albert Dolan said.

“This investment will upgrade facilities, improve energy efficiency, and ensure that learners from Athenry to Loughrea, Gort to Tuam, have access to high-quality training environments and industry-standard equipment.”

Nationally, the €7 million package will also target the expansion of infrastructure and equipment to support Ireland’s growing MedTech cluster.

The Galway region, Deputy Dolan noted, is uniquely placed to meet the needs of biopharmaceutical, pharmaceutical, and MedTech employers.

“Galway and Roscommon ETB plays a vital role in supporting apprenticeships, upskilling programmes, the MedTech talent pipeline, and the construction and green skills required to meet our national housing and climate action targets. This funding gives them the flexibility to modernise facilities, respond to local needs, and plan confidently for the future.”

The investment will further support the push to meet 2030 climate-action targets, with funding directed towards retrofitting and system upgrades across ETB buildings in the region.
