Galway is set to receive nine new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the county as part of the National EV Infrastructure Strategy.

The development is part of a wider rollout that will see 90 locations nationwide host more than 190 high-power charging points.

The national strategy, first published in 2022, established funding schemes for EV charging stations. The current phase of the scheme runs until the end of 2025, when it will be reviewed and updated based on data gathered over the three-year period.

Galway East TD Seán Canney welcomed confirmation of the nine Galway sites, describing it as a sign of Ireland’s commitment to cleaner transport.

“This is a very significant boost for Galway and for the west of Ireland. These new charging hubs will ensure that drivers can charge quickly and reliably across our county,” Minister Canney said. “It’s a practical and visible step towards achieving our climate targets, reducing emissions, and making electric driving a realistic choice for more households and businesses.”

The charging stations are set to be installed at the following locations: Sweeney Oil, Moycullen (N59), Sweeney Oil, Clifden (N59), Leenane Hotel, Leenane (N59), Corrib Oil, Loughrea (N65), Centra Moylough Service Station, Moylough (N63), Sweeney Oil Service Station, Claregalway Road, Oranmore (N67), Arches Hotel, Claregalway (N83), McHugh’s Traditional Pub & Restaurant, Killeen, Galway (N84).
