New step ladder to be installed at Galway city’s diving tower

A new ladder is prepared to be installed at Galway’s most famous diving tower in the coming weeks.
The Galway City Council Parks team is preparing to put in a new step ladder on the alternate side of Blackrock Diving Tower.
Due to proximity to the water, the work is categorised as a potential risk outside what an employee would face on a basic workday. For this reason, an AF1 notification must be sent to the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) prior to the installation.
Completed step ladder ready for installation.
Health and safety teams who carried out risk assessments told Galway City Council officials the work can only be completed during low tide.
The notice and documents are expected to be submitted in the following days, and the installation of the ladder is expected within the next two weeks.
During a meeting on Wednesday, September 15, councillors were informed that proactive structural assessments on the tower will be also carried out in the coming months.
