By Emma F. Smith, Irish Independent

Planning permissions have been submitted for the installation of electric vehicle chargers and car park spaces at the Galway Shopping Centre along Headford Road, Galway city.

A proposed addition of seven electric vehicle charging points and 12 electric vehicle parking spaces have been submitted to Galway City Council’s planning offices.

There will be seven charging points and twelve car park spaces.

19 spots designated for EV’s are proposed.

The parking spaces will be accompanied by the full service substation and meter box which will be located next to charging points, according to the application.

The shopping centre off the Headford Road is home to Planet Entertainment centre, Tesco, Penny’s, Gourmet Tart and Flying Tiger. There is a large car park catering to the shopping centre.

ESB and Brite charging stations are located in the adjacent Galway Retail park which hosts the IMC cinema, Curry’s and Aldi.

If these plans are approved, there will be five charging stations within a one kilometer stretch of the Headford Road.

The application was submitted on July 9 by Hall Power Limited, and the council is due to decide on the case by early September.
