Garden games, circus skills and dancing at Galway's ‘play for all’ family park day

Families in County Galway are invited to join Galway County Council in celebration of National Play Day 2026.
Galway Sports Partnership (GSP) and Galway County Council will be hosting Galway’s Play Day at Corribdale Park in Oughterard this weekend.
On Saturday, July 11 from 1pm to 3pm, the park will feature garden games, dancing, circus skills, sports, face painting, and a sensory area for children of all ages.
The theme of the celebration is “play for all” highlighting an inclusive interaction through play that supports development, creativity and community.
“Galway County Council is proud to support National Play Day 2026. Play is an essential part of childhood and community life, helping to nurture creativity, friendship and wellbeing,” Galway County Council Cathaoirleach Andrew Reddington said.
“We encourage families across the county to come along, take part in the celebrations and enjoy the many benefits that play brings to children, families and communities.”
The event is in collaboration with GSP, who encourages participation through sport, play and community, especially to young girls, people with disabilities and disadvantaged communities.
Andrew McBride, coordinator at GSP said it is “essential” to involve play in a child’s development.
“National Play Day is a fantastic opportunity to bring communities together and celebrate the importance of ensuring every child has the chance to play, connect and thrive. It encourages active, healthy lifestyles in a fun, inclusive and welcoming environment.”
The event is free and all are welcome. Families are encouraged to bring a picnic.
