Galway welcome funding increase for family resource centres – ‘It will have a lasting impact for families’

Core funding for a number of Family Resource Centre in Galway East has been increased as part of a nationwide boost to support their vital work with children and families.
Announced by the Minister for Children, Disability and Equality, Norma Foley, the minimum funding level for Family Resource Centres will be increased from to €160,000 to €180,000 in January 2026.
Among the centres, Brú Bhríde in Tuam and the Gort Family Resource Centre will see a €20,000 increase in funding – one of the largest increases in Galway.
Brú Bhríde was recently established as part of the Tusla National Programme for 2025 expansion earlier this autumn as one of five resource centres that brought the national number up to 126. At the time of implementation, the core funding allocated to the applicants was €160,000 per annum in operation.
Seeing additional increases are also Solas in Headford (€17,900 increase), Doughiska Family Resource Centre (€11,196.52 increase), and Clann Ressource Centre in Oughterard (€8,682.49 increase).
Galway East TD Seán Canney said these centres are at the “heart of community life” and welcomed the support, counselling, education, and activities brought to family and young people.
Minister Canney added: “The Family Resource Centre Programme is one of the most effective examples of community-led support in action. This increase in core funding is an investment in local people, local knowledge, and local solutions and it will have a lasting impact for families and communities in Galway and across the country.”
