Galway town welcomes ‘necessary' Uisce Éireann pipe upgrades as works ready to begin

By Emma F. Smith, Independent.ie

Uisce Éireann has confirmed that works to replace a section of ageing water mains in Tuam will get underway this week, in a bid to improve drinking water quality for homes and businesses.

The works will be carried out in short sections to minimise disruption, with traffic lights in place as required. Uisce Éireann said construction will pause for the Christmas and New Year period. Access for emergency services will be maintained throughout.

Residents and businesses may experience short, temporary water outages while the upgrades are underway. The utility has said affected customers will receive at least 48 hours’ notice ahead of any planned interruption.

Galway East TD Seán Canney welcomed the project, describing it as “a very welcome and necessary upgrade for Tuam’s water network”.

Replacing outdated mains, he said, would reduce leakage, improve water quality and deliver a more reliable service for the community.
