Galway to host ‘end the gridlock’ public meeting on traffic solutions and GLUAS advancement

A public meeting will be held this evening in the Connacht Hotel to discuss viable solutions for traffic congestion in Galway city.
The meeting, named ‘End the Gridlock’, will take place on Monday March 2 and it will be hosted by Galway City Councillor and Galway West by-election candidate, Helen Ogbu.
Labour Party and Kildare South TD, Mark Wall, and GLUAS campaigner Brendan Holland will be featured speakers with insights and proposals on how to tackle the ongoing traffic issue.
In a Labour party statement about the event, Cllr Ogbu said priorities lie firstly on bus transport, with the Bus Connects project “moving ahead without dealy”. Secondly on “seriously” planning for the light rail in Galway.
The Ring Road is also expected to be one of this evening’s topics.
“We support progressing the Ring Road, which is currently awaiting a decision from An Coimisiún Pleanála, but let us be honest. The Ring Road is not a silver bullet. Even if it proceeds, it will not solve the deep structural problems in our transport system," Cllr Ogbu added.
Cllr Ogbu also took to Instagram promoting the collaborative event where the public is encouraged to share ideas and solutions for the “sustainable mobility of our city.”
The Labour councillor has committed to take on transportation and accessibility during her campaign leading up to the by-election in May.
When Cllr Ogbu formally launched her campaign, the GLUAS light rail project was among her key priorities.
The meeting is open to the public and will take place at the Connacht Hotel, Galway city, at 7.30pm.
