Galway County Council is seeking feedback from active community groups and residents to develop a Local Sports Plan to keep the county healthy.

Over two days, a series of public meetings will be hosted throughout the county engaging with locals on an integrated sports plan. The plan aims to encourage an inclusive and motivating environment for an “Active, Vibrant, Healthy Galway for All.”

The plan also aims to break down barriers like age and gender in sports and recreational amenity, and increase participation.

“Across County Galway we have seen the positive impact of investment in community facilities, walking trails, recreational amenities and local sports programmes,” Cathaoirleach of Galway County Council Cllr Andrew Reddington said adding that physical activity enhances quality of life.

In partnership between Galway County Council, Galway Local Sports Partnership, and S3 Solutions, a public sector consultancy for social change, residents, sports clubs, community groups, schools, older people and people with disabilities are encouraged to submit their opinions.

“This new Local Sports Plan will help shape how we invest in facilities, programmes and initiatives that support our communities for years to come,” Galway County Council Chief Executive Liam Conneally said.

From 7pm to 9pm, public meetings will be held throughout the County from Tuesday, August 25 through Thursday, August 27.

The first will be at the Oughterard Courthouse and Gullanes Hotel in Ballinasloe on August 25. Gort Town Hall and Athenry Community Hall will hold their meeting on August 26. Lastly, Harmony Hall in Tuam will finish up the series on August 27.
