Galway east and island projects to receive over €630k in CLÁR funding

A total of €634,922 in CLÁR (Ceantair Laga Árd-Riachtanais) allocations has been announced for Galway, with a special focus on three of the county’s islands and a range of community organisations.
The November funding round will support improvements to facilities and public spaces across the county. Of the total, over €200,000 has been earmarked for projects on Inis Bofin, Inis Meáin and Inis Mór, under the scheme’s Our Living Islands initiative.
Galway County Council Chief Executive Liam Conneally said CLÁR is a vitally important scheme for rural counties like Galway, where small-scale infrastructural projects can bring new life to local communities.
He said: “This year's funding provides a strong return for the county, he said, supporting community groups and sporting clubs right across Galway. The Council is committed to working with all funding recipients to ensure their projects are delivered successfully and make a real difference for their communities.”
Galway East TD Seán Canney and Fianna Fáil TD Albert Dolan also welcomed the announcement.
“It helps us create strong, resilient, and vibrant communities where families can thrive, young people can grow and stay close to home, and local clubs and schools can continue to flourish,” Deputy Dolan said.
“Initiatives like this demonstrate the real impact that can be achieved when communities, local representatives, and government work together to deliver positive, lasting change.”
The community facilities and organisations that were awarded the money are: Abbeyknockmoy Hurling Club & Community Grounds (€54,900), Meelick Eyrecourt Gaelic Athletic Association (€65,000), St. Thomas' GAA and Camogie Club (€65,000), Killimordaly GAA Club (€65,000), Kiltartan National School (€65,000), Lawrencetown Community Development CLG-Community Pitch (€65,000), Skehana Community Development (SCD) (€65,000), Portumna Chamber of Commerce & Galway County Council and Ability West (€100,000), Glenamaddy Soccer Club CLG - Glen Celtic AFC (€65,000), Inis Bofin Development Company (€59,145), Comhlact Forbartha Inis Meáin (€49,808), Comharchumann Forbartha Árann (€58,500), Comharchumann Forbartha Árann (€34,950).
This year’s national CLÁR programme is distributing more than €14 million, the highest annual allocation since the scheme was reintroduced in 2016.
