Galway considers introducing Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library programme

Galway’s libraries are exploring ways to introduce Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library programme to the county.
At a recent Galway County Council meeting, Cllr Michael Regan praised the late country star Dolly Parton for her extraordinary talent and called for the council to seek funding to bring her library initiative to Galway.
Galway County Director of Services Eileen Ruane said an initial review of the programme shows the programme is in line with many of Galway library’s values.
At this time, management staff are examining the financial commitment required and what partnerships would be needed to roll the initiative out locally.
Dolly Patron’s Imagination Library is a monthly book-gifting programme which offers free books to children from birth to age five.
The programme was introduced in Ireland in 2019, making it the fifth country to take on the initiative.
Dolly Patron started her Imagination Library in memory of her father who could not read.
The musician and beloved character died on August 25 at the age of 80.
