Funding for Galway roads realignment confirmed after eight-year campaign

Contracts for upgrades to a Tuam road are expected to be signed after the new year, Galway East TD Sean Canney has confirmed.
The R332 Kilbannon Road has received the green light for a series of safety and accessibility works, including a road realignment from Kilbannon village towards the GAA pitch.
The project will also deliver new footpaths and cycle paths linking the area to St Benin’s National School.
The Department of Transport recently confirmed €1.7 million in funding for the scheme under the Realignment Programme, despite initial funding having been announced in 2019.
The project was first campaigned for in 2017.
Construction is expected to commence early in 2026 once contracts are finalised.
