Domestic and sexual violence support services in Galway to get €35,000 funding boost

Domestic, sexual and gender-based violence services in Galway are welcoming a share of a €3.2 million national funding allocation announced this week.

Galway will receive €35,000 to support service expansion and capacity-building across three organisations. Cope Galway and the Galway Rape Crisis Centre will each receive €15,000, while Domestic Violence Response (DVR) Galway has been allocated €5,179.

Galway East TD Seán Canney said the funding would support organisations providing “essential, often life-changing” services to victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence in the county.

“These organisations provide essential, often life-changing support for victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Galway,” he said. “This funding will help strengthen frontline services and ensure people can access the support they need when they need it most.

“As demand for services continues to grow, it is vital that local providers are properly resourced. I want to acknowledge the commitment and dedication of the Galway organisations receiving funding today and thank them for the critical work they do in our communities,” he added.

The allocation follows a targeted funding call by national agency Cuan, with a focus on expanding counselling services for adolescent victims and survivors, improving access for marginalised groups, increasing service capacity, and providing training for staff and board members.

Nationally, the €3.2 million allocation is divided across four service categories: €1.44 million (46pc) for domestic violence services; €1.3 million (42pc) for sexual violence services; €377,185 (12pc) for perpetrator programme–specific services; and €79,509 in once-off, in-year funding.
