Contractor appointed for new Galway City Hall due to open for Christmas time

A contractor has been appointed to carry out the interior works at the new Galway City Hall at Crown Square.
Flynn Management and Construction has been selected as the “most economically advantageous tender”, Director of Services Derek Pender confirmed at the April meeting of Galway City Council.
The acceptance of the contract marks the formal commencement of the contractual process, with a letter of intent sent to the company in early February.
Mr Pender told councillors in February that the building is expected to open before Christmas, with IT services due to be installed first to ensure workspaces are fully operational.
The development has previously drawn scrutiny over costs, particularly after councillors approved a €60 million loan to fund a range of projects, including the new headquarters.
Traffic management around the Tuam Road and Thermo King junction has also emerged as a concern, amid fears the existing congestion could worsen significantly once the offices become operational.
Separately, planning permission was granted earlier this month for two additional office blocks at the Crown Square site on the Monivea Road.
