Anti-war demonstration to take place in Galway city amid US-Iran conflict

An anti-war demonstration will take place at Eyre Square in Galway city this Monday evening, March 2.
The event is hosted by People Before Profit Galway West by-election candidate and activist, Denman Rooke, along with party member Kiran Emrich as they are calling for the bombing of Iran to cease by American and Isreali forces, which began this weekend.
“There is no justification for an invasion of Iran,” Mr Emrich said in a statement. “The ongoing attacks have already caused countless civilian deaths including dozens in a school, and have further destabilised the entire Middle East region, endangering millions of people.”
The demonstration in Galway will join other Anti-War Movement demonstrations in cities like Dublin, Belfast, and Derry.
Denman Rooke said: “The Irish and British governments have gone along with these illegal attacks on Iran by allowing the US military to use Shannon airport as a transit point for troops and weapons while British military bases in the Middle East have helped the operations.”
“It is not up to the American or Israeli governments to decide who governs in Iran, any decision on the Iranian government is for the Iranian people to decide.”
Mr Rooke stands as the PBP candidate for the Galway West by-election coming in May. The artist and activist will represent the only party who has publicly ruled out coalition with the Government.
Irish neutrality remains a priority topic in his campaign.
Other featured speakers and participators are expected this evening.
The demonstration will be held at Eyre Square at 6.00pm.
