The construction contract for improvement works on the R332 Kilbannon Road near Tuam, Co Galway, has been awarded to Jons Civil Engineering Company Ltd.

The €4 million project is scheduled to commence on January 19, 2025, with works expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Tuam councillor Donagh Killilea shared the update on Facebook, paying special tribute to local landowners and residents for their “kindness and courtesy,” which he said helped the project move forward.

Planned improvements include the realignment and widening of the R332 through Kilbannon village towards the GAA grounds.

The works will also deliver a new cycle lane and footpath linking the local school to the grounds, along with pedestrian crossings throughout the village.

The R332 is a key regional route, linking the N17 Tuam Bypass to the N84 at Kilmaine, County Mayo.

The Department of Transport recently confirmed €1.7 million in funding for the scheme under the Realignment Programme, despite initial funding having been announced in 2019. The project was first campaigned for in 2017.
