Power outages in Clondalkin ‘longer and constant’, say local councillors

People living in the Clondalkin area of south Dublin have been dealing with a “constant surge” of power outages in the area, according to councillors.
At a local area meeting of South Dublin County Council, councillors agreed to write a letter to the ESB to ask for an explanation about why the outages have increased.
“These outages are continuous and ever-increasing. They’ve grown longer in time and are constant,” Trevor Gilligan, the Fianna Fáil councillor who raised the motion, said.
“I’ve been in contact with them and I’ve not had any information from the ESB regarding these outages that are affecting more and more people as the weeks go by.
“I’ve not heard any reply from them, which is disgraceful. I’d like to have them meet us to talk about why these outages are taking place.
“The council needs to meet them to rectify that so they don’t increase as the weeks and months go.”
Independent councillor Francis Timmons seconded the motion, saying the outages occur without warning.
“There’s no advance notice that this is going to happen and it’s very difficult, especially for families with young kids,” he said.
“It’s become more and more regular. We don’t know what it’s related to, we just know it’s happening. So it’ll be good to have a conversation to know why it’s happening so often.
“This used to be a rare thing in Clondalkin, but where I’m living, it’s definitely grown more and more common.”
Sinn Féin councillor William Carey said the motion was very timely, as constituents had been asking for an explanation.
“This is a timely motion because there have been quite a few outages recently. We had the same thing happen a couple of years ago and couldn’t get a response,” he said.
“I’m delighted we’re looking for a meeting, we’re owed a reply from ESB about the service we’re being provided.
“I think people are entitled to an explanation about why it’s happening.”
The ESB have been contacted for comment.
