Large social housing project nears completion in West Donegal

By Mark Forker, Donegal Daily

A social housing project that will consist of 42 new homes is nearing completion in West Donegal.

The new housing development in Dungloe is located directly across from the Rosses Community School on the outskirts of the town.

The update was provided by Jim Bonner, Senior Engineer at Donegal County Council at a recent meeting of the Glenties Municipal District in Dungloe.

Bonner said works were progressing 'very well' on the social housing project.

"The project is progressing extremely well, and about 85% of the internal works have been complete. The contractor has also carried out a lot of the seasonal works, such as back gardens and things like that."

Bonner acknowledged that there has been a delay in terms of delivering the project, but is hopeful the housing development will be completed by the end of the year.

"There has been a slippage, but the project is progressing very well now. There is 42 units, so it was a tight programme, but we're hoping that the development will be complete by the end of the year, or the beginning of January," said Bonner.

Bonner provided a number of other updates on other social housing projects across the Glenties Municipal District.

"In relation to the housing project in Creeslough, there are ongoing boundary issues that need to be closed out with landowners, and we need to increase our efforts there to get that over the line.

"Similarly, in Glenties, there is a development consisting of 3 units, but again there needs to be further engagement with landowners, but we're confident that'll reach a positive conclusion," said Bonner.

Bonner also confirmed that two phases of a turn-key project in Gweedore had been completed, and that the last 10 units are scheduled to be completed by the end of September.
