INDEPENDENT Cllr Jimmy Brogan has become the new Cathaoirleach of Donegal Municipal District.

He was elected at the AGM in Donegal Town on Tuesday, taking over from Fianna Fáil Cllr Micheál Naughton.

“It is a great honour to be elected Cathaoirleach of the Donegal Municipal District at today’s AGM in Donegal Town,” shared Cllr Brogan.

“I would like to thank Cllr Michael Boyle for proposing me for the position and to Cllr [Niamh] Kennedy for seconding it.

“Having been an elected councillor for only two years, I would like to thank all the councillors in the Donegal MD for having the confidence in me to lead them for the next year after such a short time as an elected councillor.

“I look forward to representing the people in all the towns and villages from Gleann Cholm Cille to Bundoran, as I have done over the last two years and will continue working closely with the other councillors throughout the county.”

Fine Gael Cllr Michael Boyle was named the new Leas Cathaoirleach.
