Councillor fumes at "Rip off Ireland" as diesel reaches €2.13

By Mark Forker, Donegal Daily

Independent county councillor Micheál Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig has called for change as the price of diesel and petrol continues to soar across Donegal.

The impact of the US-Iran war has put huge strain on the global energy sector and that is really starting to hurt ordinary punters at the pumps.

Mac Giolla Easbuig said that the primary cause of the price hikes for fuel is capitalism and said 'real change' is badly needed.

In a video post on his Facebook page, Mac Giolla Easbuig was also critical of the Irish government, and said that the cost of living has gone totally out of control.

"It is costing €2.13 for diesel, people can't afford this. The Irish government is continuing to f**k us over. We need change and we need it badly.

"The cost of living is totally out of control. People spending half their wages on rent, and now can't afford to pay for diesel or petrol. Capitalism is only working for one section of our community, a very small one, while the rest of the working class suffers."

Earlier this month, Taoiseach Micheál Martin warned that diesel prices rising above two euro per litre will become the “new norm”.

Prices previously spiked at the very beginning of the war between the US and Iran and that sparked the Irish fuel protests in April, that ran from April 7th to the 14th, before the government and protesters thrashed out a deal.

There are fears that if prices continue to head in an upward trajectory that the fuel protests may return this winter.
