Anger in West Donegal village as recycling bins overflow
Locals in the West Donegal village of Annagry, have expressed their disgust at the rubbish that has been dumped at the recycling banks.
There has been a large influx of tourists into many seaside villages across Donegal following the July 12th celebrations in Northern Ireland at the weekend.
Annagry is a hugely popular destination, that boasts some of the nicest beaches in the county.
The increase in visitors to the area has probably contributed to the recycling units reaching capacity, but locals have asked why people discarded their rubbish when it was clear the recycling banks were already full.
Well-known local postman and freelance photographer Eoin McGarvey expressed his dismay at the ongoing situation.
In a post on Facebook McGarvey said, "The collection is growing. Bedding has been added today to the pile already there at the recycling banks in Annagry. Is this not considered illegal dumping if the recycle units are full? Nine recycle units, and they all seem full to the neck."
Michael Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig, who is the local representative in the area, also condemned the dumping, and described the situation as "not good enough."
Mac Giolla Easbuig also said he was in contact with the Donegal County Council to get the situation resolved immediately.
