People of Cork called upon for their input into shape of massive new city park
CorkmanCork City Council is seeking the public’s input on a new 116-hectare park planned for the north-west of the city. The lands, which are zoned as public open space, are around 2km from the city centre, close to the areas of Hollyhill, Knocknaheeny and Fairhill.
The North West City Park is designated as a key deliverable in the Cork City Development Plan 2022-2028. The city council says it will provide a range of recreation opportunities and will enhance biodiversity for this area of the city.
The project team has been engaging with the public, local communities and groups to develop a masterplan for the park. People can contribute to the masterplan by filling out a short questionnaire here: https://app.maptionnaire.com/q/cork-nwcp
Cork City Council has held a number of engagement events with the public so far, including several workshops during Lifelong Learning Festival 2025 and project team visits to schools in the local area.
A multidisciplinary consultancy design team was appointed in mid-2024 and work completed so far has included a preliminary ecological survey and a topographical survey. An implementation strategy is being developed to guide the city council in the delivery of the park in a phased manner over the coming years.
