Witness Appeal – Fatal Collision on Railway Line at Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo – 3rd September 2026

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision on a railway line in Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo, on 3rd September 2026. The incident occurred at a level crossing in Kiltybo shortly after 8:45pm, involving a train and a car. A 12-year-old boy in the car died at the scene, while the driver, a man in his late 40s, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized. All train passengers were unharmed and transported onward. The road remains closed, and a forensic examination is underway. The Coroner has been notified, and the deceased has been taken to the mortuary for a post-mortem. Gardaí are urging anyone with camera footage from the area between 8:15pm and 9:15pm to contact Ballina Garda Station or the Garda Confidential Line.
