Three complainants succeeded, with compensation orders totalling €4,500 against a healthcare clinic, a supermarket and the Gresham Hotel.
The WRC accepted James Oliver Tattan’s evidence that a hotel porter refused to look at a medical letter confirming his disability; it ordered the hotel to pay him €500 for discrimination over a mask requirement at its Dublin premises in December 2020.
The report said more claims were awaiting a decision or hearing date after a 298 per cent rise in disability discrimination complaints by customers and members of the public in 2021.
