The Workplace Relations Commission has recommended that a psychologist be paid €20,000 over shortcomings in his employer’s handling of complaints against him. The recommendation was dated 19 September 2023.
Adjudication officer Andrew Heavey found that the employer failed to notify the psychologist of a second complaint or give him an opportunity to respond. He said the complaints report and subsequent review addressed the service a family received and made no findings against the psychologist.
Mr Heavey recommended that the psychologist accept an offer to place a rebuttal statement on file and accept that the independent review report could not be nullified and remained the official record. He also recommended that the employer inform employees named in complaints and give them an opportunity to respond before an investigation concludes.
