WRC orders Primark to pay Penneys worker €1,277.64 after unfair dismissal finding

The Workplace Relations Commission ordered Primark to pay Janine Halpin €1,277.64 after finding her dismissal unfair, while ruling she was 70 per cent responsible for it. The part-time retail assistant was dismissed from the company’s Penneys store at the Square Shopping Centre in Tallaght, Dublin, in June 2024.

Adjudication officer Jim Dolan found that giving Halpin only 30 minutes’ notice of an investigation meeting turned the invitation into an “ambush”. He reduced the award to reflect her contribution to her dismissal.
