WRC orders landlord to pay tenant €20,000 over HAP refusal and eviction threats

The Workplace Relations Commission ordered Muhammad Naeem Aslam to pay apartment tenant Ayodeji Saanu €20,000 for breaches of the Equal Status Act 2000. Adjudicator Louise Boyle found that Aslam discriminated against Saanu on the housing assistance ground by refusing to accept HAP when Saanu needed it ahead of surgery, and awarded €12,000 for that breach.

Boyle also found that Aslam victimised Saanu for initiating an equality claim by arranging a property inspection and continuing to threaten eviction. She awarded a further €8,000, bringing the compensation ordered to €20,000.
