WRC hearing adjourned in Marker Hotel worker’s discrimination claim

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

A Workplace Relations Commission hearing into Erick Roa’s discrimination claim against the Marker Hotel was adjourned. Adjudicator Penelope McGrath said she would seek a resumed hearing date in March, when the hotel’s barrister could continue cross-examining Roa. The claim has not been decided.

Roa told the WRC that his manager repeatedly asked about his sexuality and country of origin, and said he began secretly recording managers in 2024 to gather evidence. The hotel’s legal team disputed that he was discriminated against or bullied because of his sexual orientation. Roa resigned in February 2025 before the outcome of his second grievance, which rejected his complaint, was delivered.
