The Workplace Relations Commission heard a compensation claim by veterinarian Annie Baltz after her employer conceded that her dismissal was unfair. Redress was the main matter for adjudication.
Ms Baltz was dismissed on 13 March 2024. Her appeal was unsuccessful, and she began new employment on 1 July 2024. Her former salary was €103,000 and her new role paid €70,000 initially. She claimed losses of approximately €57,907.
The company argued that Ms Baltz had failed to mitigate her losses. Ms Baltz said she sought roles offering flexibility for her childcare responsibilities. Chief executive James Cahill said she could have found veterinary work quickly or mitigated her losses through locum work; she said locum work lacked flexibility and security.
The hearing concluded before adjudication officer Louise Boyle on 19 May 2025. A WRC decision is dated 22 October 2025.
