WRC dismisses Ryanair crew member’s discrimination complaint, calling phantom citations an abuse of process

By Eimear Byrne

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

The Workplace Relations Commission dismissed Fernando Oliveira’s discrimination complaint against Ryanair, finding it not well founded. Oliveira alleged discrimination on grounds of race and family status, as well as victimisation, harassment and sexual harassment; Ryanair denied the allegations.

Adjudication officer Patricia Owens said the submissions included irrelevant, misquoted and non-existent citations. She described the attempt to introduce new claims late and rely on phantom citations as an abuse of process, and said parties must make relevant, accurate submissions that do not mislead. The ruling was handed down on 1 October.
