The Workplace Relations Commission upheld Kieran O'Leary’s unfair dismissal complaint against Bord Gáis and awarded him €5,289.08 under the Unfair Dismissals Act 1977. Adjudicator Dónal Moore said a 2022 complaint had been improperly conflated with complaints made in 2023.
O'Leary, who was sacked from his service-engineer job in January 2024, denied accepting cash for side work. He said there was no evidence for the allegation and explained that he had supplied a grommet to keep a customer’s boiler safe while awaiting a replacement. The adjudicator nevertheless found that using his own parts was not warranted and that O'Leary bore some fault.
The proceedings were reported on 24 June 2025.
