WRC awards Circle K worker €1,000 for harassment

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

The Workplace Relations Commission ordered Circle K to pay shop supervisor Siddarth Thirunavukkarasu €1,000 for harassment after his manager told him to supervise a bathroom clean-up and finish the job. The incident was at the company’s Belgard filling station in Tallaght, Dublin 24.

Adjudication officer Jim Dolan found there was no discrimination or victimisation, but concluded the manager told Thirunavukkarasu, when he objected to escorting a man cleaning the toilets, “Come on, be a man”. He said it was difficult to disagree that the remark amounted to harassment. The manager had disputed making it; the WRC account said the company’s internal investigator could not substantiate the remark because there was no witness. The €1,000 award was for harassment.
