Worker awarded €1,500 after meat plant dismissal found procedurally unfair

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Jose Antonio Viana-Pereira was awarded €1,500 after the Workplace Relations Commission found Boyne Valley Meats Ltd had dismissed him in a procedurally unfair way. The commission said the dismissal decision itself fell within the range of reasonable responses, but the company had not followed a procedure before dismissing him.

The WRC rejected his separate racial discrimination complaint, finding his account of what the company director said was inconsistent. It also directed the company to pay one week’s wages in lieu of notice. His representatives said they were appealing the case to the Labour Court.
