Woman receives suspended sentence for role in €1 million fraud

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Olivia O Mahony, 22, pleaded guilty to possessing property knowing it was the proceeds of crime after €15,000 was transferred into her Bank of Ireland account. She withdrew it in just over two hours by buying sterling and US dollars, the court heard. Her then partner drove her to Dublin city centre and the airport, and she said in interview that she handed him the cash. The money came from a €1 million fraud involving a false email that redirected a Danish company’s VAT refund, prosecutors told the court.

Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard that O Mahony had no previous convictions and had not profited from the crime. The judge said she had been taken advantage of and used, then imposed an 18-month prison sentence, suspended in full.
