A woman has been granted an interim protection order against her former boyfriend after telling Bray District Court that he had harassed her with threats and made more than 100 phone calls within the space of a few hours.

The woman appeared at an in-camera family law sitting of Bray District Court, where she sought an interim protection order against her former partner.

Giving evidence under oath, the woman said she had been in a relationship with her ex-boyfriend for more than three years before the couple broke up.

She alleged that since the separation, he has made threats towards both her and himself, including threats of suicide, and that he rang her 118 times in the space of three hours. The woman also told the court that her former partner uses both alcohol and drugs.

The court was told that the last time the couple saw each other was on New Year’s Eve.

When questioned by Judge Ramsey as to whether her ex-partner had ever been violent towards her, she said he had never physically assaulted her but noted that he had become verbally abusive on multiple occasions.

The woman asked that she be contacted with confirmation once her former partner had been served with the court order.

The court sergeant said a note would be placed on the order requesting that she be informed by telephone when service had been effected.

Judge Ramsey granted the interim protection order and adjourned the matter for a further hearing on April 1, 2025.

The judge noted that the respondent “has a right to defend himself".
