Woman committed to CMH after murder insanity verdict

By Cathal Brosnan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

The unnamed woman, found not guilty by reason of insanity of murder, was committed to the Central Mental Hospital by the Central Criminal Court on 25 October 2019. The verdict concerned the death of her toddler daughter at their family home.

Mr Justice Michael White made the committal order after the Health Service Executive confirmed that a bed had become available. The order was made so an approved medical officer could prepare a psychiatric assessment, with the matter due back before the court on 5 November.

The woman had initially been admitted to bail after an earlier committal order could not be implemented because the hospital had no available bed.
