Wicklow youth awarded €10,500 after being wrongly accused over unpaid bill at Eddie Rockets
The Wicklow PeopleA youth has been awarded €10,500 after a court heard he was wrongly accused of failing to pay a €90 bill at Eddie Rockets in Arklow
An infant settlement application was brought before a sitting of Wicklow Circuit Civil Court by William Connors, suing via his mother Kathleen Connors of Kilcarra East, Arklow, in a case against Obeliskvale Limited, trading as Eddie Rockets with a registered business address at Mespil Road, Dublin 4.
The application related to a defamation matter involving a minor, with the court asked to rule on whether the proposed settlement was fair and in the best interests of the child.
Counsel for the minor, Conor Rubalcava, stated that the settlement arose from an incident in June 2024 at Eddie Rockets in Arklow.
He said that, while his client was at the restaurant, a server approached him and asked: “Are you going to pay your €90 bill from last week?”, while he was in the presence of friends and other patrons of the restaurant.
However, Mr Connors told the server that they must be mistaken, which the worker accepted, before Connors returned home and informed his mother. She later contacted Eddie Rockets and the instructing solicitors, Benville and Robinson.
An offer of €10,500 was subsequently accepted by Ms Connors on behalf of her son.
Judge Patrick Quinn approved the settlement and ruled that legal costs, including counsel’s fees, were also to be paid.
