A race car driver has been disqualified from driving on public roads after being observed tailgating and travelling at high speed on the N11 in south Dublin.

Cameron Fenton (24), of Mount Haven, Greystones, Co Wicklow, appeared before a sitting of Bray District Court on a summons brought by An Garda Síochána.

He is charged with driving a vehicle without reasonable consideration for other road users.

However, the accused was not present in court, and Judge David Kennedy proceeded to hear the facts of the case in his absence.

A specialist garda testified that on October 28, 2024, on the N11 in Shankill, he was on patrol in an unmarked Ford Focus ST when he observed Mr Fenton driving a 2013 Range Rover, tailgating the vehicle ahead and “bullying the car ahead”.

The court heard that the accused was observed for several minutes and was seen travelling at alleged speeds of up to 140kmh.

Mr Fenton then undertook two vehicles as he continued from the N11 towards Shankill Main Street, at which point the garda decided to stop him.

The garda told the court that he cautioned the defendant and warned him that he had been driving at excessive speed, explaining that he had been stopped due to his manner of driving.

He added that Mr Fenton became argumentative and defensive, with the garda remarking: “I told him to try his case in court,” before issuing him with a fine. Mr Fenton failed to pay the fine.

Judge Kennedy convicted the accused, disqualified him from driving for a period of six months, and fined him €75
