A Bray man has been given a suspended sentence after gardaí discovered cocaine and cannabis during two separate incidents.

Jamie O’Connor (21), of Ballywaltrim Heights, Bray, Co. Wicklow, appeared for sentencing at Bray District Court. The defendant is charged with two separate drug possession offences, one for cocaine and one for cannabis.

The court was informed that on August 12, 2025, while on foot patrol, gardaí stopped O’Connor and searched him, discovering a bag of cocaine with a street value of €120. While being cautioned, he allegedly pushed his mother into the gardaí and fled the scene.

In a separate incident, gardaí, detecting the strong smell of cannabis, observed O’Connor in possession of a cannabis joint along with a bag of cannabis worth €20.

The court heard O’Connor has 60 previous convictions and is currently serving a sentence related to a firearms offence committed in 2020.

On that occasion O’Connor pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm in suspicious circumstances and was sentenced to two years in prison, with the final six months suspended.

The court also heard that O’Connor has a history of cocaine addiction. Counsel for the defence, Joe Maguire, told the court that his client is extremely apologetic.

Judge David Kennedy sentenced O’Connor to six months imprisonment but suspended the sentence in its entirety.
