A Wicklow man who got out of a taxi and began walking up the N11, after the road was closed due to a crash, has been fined €500.

Eoin Feeney (42), with an address at Thornhill View, pleaded guilty at a sitting of Bray District Court to one count under the Public Order Act.

Inspector Ronan Quinn informed the court that on December 6, 2025, the accused began walking up the N11 when it was closed due to a road traffic incident.

Gardaí challenged Mr Feeney before he was arrested under the Public Order Act.

Solicitor for the defendant, Brendan Maloney, said that it was a “silly situation”.

He explained that his client had been out drinking with friends before getting a taxi home when traffic came to a halt.

The court was told that Mr Feeney began to “worry about the matter going up”, so he got out and started walking up the motorway.

In mitigation, the court heard that the defendant has no previous convictions and is “extremely sorry for his behaviour”.

Judge Paula Cullinane remarked that Mr Feeney “has come thus far into his life without getting in trouble”.

She fined him €500 under the Probation Act, to be paid to the Irish Cancer Society. This will leave him without a criminal record.
